Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology

Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology is a specialty of dentistry which deals with the nature, identification and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. The subject includes the microscopic examination and diagnosis of oro-facial lesions, together with a thorough understanding of molecular biology, immunology and genetics.

The department in PMS Institute of Dental Science comprises of 5 teaching staff and 2 technical staff. The undergraduate teaching program involves training of the first second and third year BDS students in the subjects of oral histology, oral embryology, tooth morphology and oral pathology, both theoretically and practically. A postgraduate training programme was started in 2010 and consists of three Post Graduates per year.

The department laboratory is well equipped with all the histopathological and cytological techniques. Facilities are available for special stains and molecular techniques like immunohistochemistry. A separate laboratory is functioning for routine hematological examination
