In our relentless pursuit to offer the best clinical guidance in dentistry to our students, our institution introduced the novel comprehensive clinical training for undergraduates. It started in the year 2019 and is reaping rich rewards. The benefit of this system has been well perceived by other academic institutions and university alike. It renders a more focused and specialized care that will improve the clinical efficiency.
In the formal undergraduate curriculum, clinical training was compartmentalized and the students were assigned clinical work and tasks to perform on a prediagnosed patient. A general lacuna was evident in the overall diagnostic skills and treatment planning competency of the students. The comprehensive clinical training overcomes this problem, since each student is assigned a patient to diagnose, plan the treatment and execute the same.
Each student is exposed to procedures of every dental specialty in the comprehensive clinics. Well experienced clinical staff guides the student to make informed decisions on diagnosis and treatment planning. Students learn to manage a patient in every aspect as it would be in a private practice. This system also ensures the effective management of material and time.
On the completion of the course, students will graduate with a new found confidence to manage a practice on their own and treat patients comprehensively.
