Pediatric Dentistry is an age defined speciality that provides primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. This speciality deals with the exclusive concept of establishment of ‘DENTAL HOME’ that tries to create a comprehensive and accessible ongoing relationship between the dentist and patient.

On completion of the undergraduate training program the graduate will be able to instill a positive attitude and behavior in children towards oral health and understand the principles of prevention and preventive dentistry right from birth to adolescence. The students will be able to guide and counsel the parents/guardian in regards to various treatment modalities including different facets of preventive dentistry.

The speciality provides PG training program which includes training the BDS graduates practice the respective speciality effectively and efficiently backed by scientific knowledge and skill thereby attain higher competence in both general and special area of interest and prepare them for a career in teaching, research and speciality practice.

Post graduates will display high quality diagnostic skills with the help of latest technology and infrastructure available in the department and acquire clinical training in various dental procedures including restorations, pulp therapy, crown placement and dental extractions of both primary and young permanent teeth. The training program make the students competent enough to manage traumatic dental injuries, minor and major oral surgical procedures and full mouth rehabilitation under conscious sedation, local and general anesthesia.

The students have a unique opportunity to get the training in the use of myofunctional and orthopedic appliances with help of Ortho -Pedo clinic which is a combined clinic of Orthodontics and Pediatric dentistry. Interdisciplinary case discussions conducted at regular intervals make them competent enough to handle multidisciplinary cases in a more efficient way.

As the dental management of differently abled children forms the integral part of the specialty, students are trained to handle them with patience and kindness tailored to the needs of individual requirement and conditions.
