Dental Screening Camp

The Department of Prosthodontics, PMS College of Dental Sciences and Research, in collaboration with the IDA Attingal Branch (CDH Wing) and the Lion’s Club, Attingal, organized a Free Denture Camp on 31st October 2023 and 2nd November 2023.

A team comprising postgraduate students and interns from the department, along with Dr. Sudeep S, Dr. Syam Mohan A, Dr. Pratheeksha V Nair, Dr. Abha Nair, and dental technicians Ms. Sheeja and Ms. Anu, arrived at the venue to make the necessary arrangements. Representatives from the IDA Attingal Branch and Lion’s Club Attingal addressed the gathering before the commencement of clinical procedures.

A total of 14 patients participated in the camp on Day 1. Each patient was assigned to a postgraduate student. The clinical workflow included the following steps:

  • Preliminary examination of each patient
  • Primary impressions taken using alginate
  • Fabrication of custom trays using shellac base plates or self-cure acrylic resin
  • Secondary impressions made with putty impression material
  • Master casts poured using dental stone
  • Fabrication of denture bases and occlusal rims
  • Recording of jaw relations and mounting on articulators
  • Anterior teeth arrangement and trial insertion      

On Day 2, the team revisited the venue with the completed dentures, which had undergone acrylic processing, finishing, and polishing.

The Free Denture Distribution Ceremony was formally inaugurated by Honourable Member of Parliament, Shri Adoor Prakash. Following the inaugural address, each patient received their prosthesis from the respective postgraduate student who had handled their case.

Detailed post-insertion instructions were provided to all patients, covering:

  • Proper denture hygiene and maintenance
  • Oral care practices
  • Guidelines for follow-up visits

Patients were advised to visit the Department of Prosthodontics at PMS College, Vattapara, for regular dental check-ups and reviews.

This denture camp proved to be a valuable outreach initiative, providing free oral rehabilitation to underserved communities. It also offered hands-on clinical exposure and practical training for postgraduate students under the guidance of experienced faculty.

World Ocean Day

In commemoration of World Ocean Day (08 June 2024), the Club Green Guardians of PMS College of Dental Science and Research, in association with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), organized a coastal awareness program at Vettukad Beach on 05 June 2024.

The initiative aimed to promote awareness about the importance of sustainable fishing practices and their critical role in preserving marine biodiversity, ensuring ocean health, and supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities.

As part of the program:

  • A fish-shaped plastic waste collection binwas installed on the beach, serving as both a symbolic representation of marine conservation and a functional tool for promoting responsible waste disposal.
  • A beach cleaning drivewas carried out by enthusiastic student volunteers, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.

The event effectively blended community engagement, environmental education, and sustainability advocacy, creating a meaningful impact and reinforcing the shared responsibility to protect our oceans for future generation

PMS College of Dental Science and Research apart from being a knowledge center and a renowned oral health care provider has made remarkable imprints in Community Services.

The college is established in 2002 under the NRI Trust in the rural surroundings of the Vembayam Panchayath in Trivandrum District. The Institution is always committed for the uplift of the poor and marginalized sections of the society and rendered all assistance to eradicate poverty and extended its helping arm for the social causes. In our college yellow ration card holders of BPL class gets treatment at free of cost subject to rules of the college. The College also offered treatment to a large public in association with Santhigiri Ashramam Pothencode.

The Public Health Dentistry department of our college during 2018 conducted 188 Dental and Oral Health camps with the support of Mobile dental clinic. The outreach program arranged with the help of education institution including tribal schools, residence associations and other social and charitable institutions.

Our college came to the forefront of fight against Covid-19 and donated 1 Lakh surgical masks to the State police. We are also developing series of educational videos in You Tube for the promotion of dental and oral health benefiting the society. Our faculty also appeared in Television and Radio programs as part of community activities.

PMS College Donated 40 ICU Beds

PMS College of Dental Science and Research donated 40 ICU beds for Trivandrum Medical College as a helping hand towards the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
